Cupping Notes: Toasting sugar bitter-sweetness dominates the cup, with faint dried apple and almond notes, and a well-integrated acidity.
The Kontiki has South American brightness and flavours, specific to the ‘Taste of Peru’. A top grade and definitive Peruvian bean, the Kontiki offers an interesting chocolaty body, full, but not heavy. Spice flavours are keenly obvious, that somehow carry the exotic flavours of the unique origin.
The coffee is grown at altitudes above 1250 masl and is predominantly a mix of Bourbon, Typica and Caturra varietals although in some areas Pache and Geisha trees can also be found. Peru is one of the world’s top Fairtrade Organic producing origin. Farmers grow Inga trees to provide shade for their coffee, these trees attract hummingbirds, parrots, warblers and tanagers. The farmers also maintain small nurseries on their farms to raise seedlings to replace aging trees.
